Cross Hospital Performance Visibility for Dublin Midlands Hospitals Group

Customer

Dublin Midlands Hospitals Group (DMHG) includes five acute hospitals, a maternity hospital, and a cancer treatment hospital. DMHG cares for a population of 820,000 with over 200,000 emergency department (ED) attendances, over 120,000 inpatients and day case admissions, 600,000 outpatient attendances and more than 9,000 births per year. The Group employs almost 12,000 people.

Problem

A need to understand and improve cross hospital performance

DMHG needed to understand operational performance for its hospitals. Certain hospitals also had no healthcare business intelligence (BI) capability. A solution was needed to help deliver performance insight and drive improvement in waiting lists and emergency department wait times.

Solution

Implement our Healthcare BI Platform and Analyst Service

MedModus deployed its cloud BI platform and analyst service in four acute hospitals and a maternity hospital. A data warehouse of information was created taking information from disparate Patient Administration Systems, ED systems and other clinical systems. Sophisticated data models were constructed as the basis for a comprehensive suite of healthcare analytics dashboards available via group level and hospital level web portals. Permissions systems ensured information was provided to different levels of the organisation on a need-to-know basis. Content included activity, patient wait time, bed management and quality of care information. Automated email reports were developed to provide daily situation reports for the Group and hospitals. Power users were given access to underlying data models via Excel to create their own reports. Forms functionality was deployed for data collection where full automation was not immediately possible.
