The challenge
Through Sláintecare, the HSE established Community Healthcare Networks as the foundational organisational units for delivering primary and community care. Some services collected data at network level, but approaches were not standardised, there was no consistent area-wide analysis network by network, and reporting data to the Business Intelligence Unit was inefficient.
Activity and waiting time data was collected through Excel workbooks completed by 300 clinicians across four allied health disciplines. The process was time consuming for clinical staff, error prone, and required managers to spend significant time correcting formulas and reconciling submissions. The effort invested returned very limited reporting value, while circulated spreadsheets were not appropriate for patient activity data of this sensitivity.
The Head of Primary Care for Dublin Midlands asked MedModus to work with the team to see how the process could be improved.
