About Pieta House

Pieta House provides free therapeutic support to people who are feeling suicidal or engaging in self-harm, as well as suicide bereavement services. There are 15 centres across Ireland with 270 therapists and administration staff helping 8,000 people a year.
The Challenge
Pieta House opened five new centres in a short timeframe to meet growing demand. The organisation needed more transparency in terms of access to its services and effective utilisation of its therapists. This information was vital to anticipating and meeting waiting for time targets for each service and planning for service growth.

Service Capacity Analysis
Analysis of waiting lists, activity and staff planning extracts gave a complete picture of service capacity using PowerPivot modelling.
By breaking down waiting times for each step of the therapy pathway, Pieta House could easily understand the performance of individual centres for different levels of risk.

By comparing actual therapy time to planned activity, it was possible to identify opportunities for reallocating resources to improve wait times.
Microsoft Power BI
In order to continuously monitor and optimise operational performance, Microsoft Power BI was connected directly to Pieta’s appointment system.
A suite of performance dashboards was developed and training provided to users.

Pieta House is now able to easily monitor waiting times and allocate resources effectively across all its centres – allowing them to deliver help to those in need when they need it most.
